Roscoe Village {Revisited}

June 27, 2012/Family

All of my chicks are back in the nest after being away for a week. They had fun at their grandparents’ house and doing VBS there, but I think they’re happy to be back with mommy and daddy. On the way home from Ohio we stopped in Roscoe Village to hit up Medbury Marketplace.

I have fond memories of our family stopping at an old country store along the way to my grandparents house as a child and thought it’d be fun to create memories like that for the kids. We’ve stopped at the village twice before. As soon as we pulled off the exit Natalie said, “Oh we’re going to that village!”  Ainsley said, “What village?”  Natalie said, “You know, the village.”  Ainsley clearly didn’t know which village.

As we drove into the little town Ainsley finally recognized where we were. “I’m getting something at the store.” She announced.

Ryan grabbed a basket right away and managed to get two bottles of vinegar in it before I caught him. (Incidentally he also kept eating the samples that were conveniently at his eye level. I’d shoo him away only to find him munching on something he found at the other end of the store.)

The girls also grabbed a basket. When it was time to check out they took my wallet and paid separately like big girls.

The girls got busy picking out candy.

Ryan told me he wanted crackers… of course.
Medbury Market is full of lots of fun things like speciality food items and chocolate covered everything. I chose dates covered with shredded coconut and topped with an almond. Dessert for someone eating the Paleo Diet. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a selection of Bob’s Red Mill products….

They have a whole section of hot sauces and peppers.

 Cheeses.

 And ooh la-la, the olive bar. I also grabbed a few of these babies.

By now you know I didn’t stop at Roscoe Village just for the kids. Don’t tell them… it’ll be our little secret.

    aww cute! love it! I remember going to the candy store with Grandpa Ennis and Grandma told him not to let us get too much candy or it would ruin our dinner. He let us each get a 1 lb 😉 Good times 😉

    How fun! I love little markets like that! How neat to carry on a tradition that you did as a child!

    Love the pictures!
