A little late, but necessary is a post about Ainsley’s birthday. She turned seven two weeks ago when life was rushing by too quickly for me to sit down and type. I’m tellin’ ya, folks, this girl is a blessing. She’s mostly smiles and singing. Such a bright light in our family.
She recently changed her favorite animal to pigs, thus the cake. She LOVED it!
Cousin Jocelyn came up with Marmi and Aunt Lexi to help us celebrate. It was a short visit, but oh so fun.
She got some crafty kits from Jocelyn.
From mom and dad, she got a hamster. Remember my famous last words? Well, Henry didn’t want to be the bad guy so when she asked for a hamster for her birthday (Natalie got a fish for her), Henry sent her to me. I’m sick of being the bad guy… so I gave in as long as daddy is the one to help her clean out the cage. That was my stipulation with the fish too. I just cannot add one more thing to clean up after (bwahahahaha, I’m having a baby soon that will need plenty of picking up after). Anywho, of course Henry agreed because he’s the best dad ever.
So we now have a hamster named Chubby Cheese. Cheese for short. He has a two-story cage with built in running wheel. Seems pretty cushy to me, but only the best for our Cheese.
And because I can’t help myself – here’s a photo of Ainsley the next day at an eye doctor appointment. She wants glasses so badly but doesn’t need them! Too bad for her.
p.s. Cheese escaped from his cage Monday night (2 weeks after being adopted). When we discovered his empty cage Tuesday morning we were on our way out the door to my sonogram. With no time to look for Cheese, we relegated Taurus to the out-of-doors until we could launch a hamster-hunt. Natalie put out pieces of cheese when we got home, but it wasn’t the cheese that got him. (don’t worry, it wasn’t the cat either). The girls were playing quietly in Ainlsey’s room when he ran out of the closet on his way to some greener grass on the other side of the fence. Instead he was swooped up by two whooping girls and plopped back into his plastic, two-story prison. Poor Taurus. Poor Cheese. Happy girls!

Happy Belated Birthday to Ainsley. Love the hamster story. Hope he is male – our male hampster turned out to be female and delivered us a little present. My son was thrilled – I was not. Have a super day.
Ha ha Hamster prison. Happy Birthday Miss A!
I’ve had a few hamsters over the years, especially when trying to fill my maternal instinct. What I found I needed, though not nearly as fun looking or cushy, was a large aquarium. You can still add climbing toys and such, but those little boogers will start to chew through the plastic cages with no problem. Mine even chewed through PVC pipe! Also, you can get a nice metal vented lid that kindof folds in half for feeding and cleaning, but make sure you put a weight on top of it. They are sly little foxes when it comes to escaping, let me tell ya. Mine always went to the same closet and set up “house”. Best of luck to Ainsley and Cheese! And Happy Birthday too! 🙂
