Going In-house

July 28, 2009/Ryan

Ryan and I headed down to Children’s today for his routine tissue expansions. We breezed through plastics without a care in the world. I even snapped pictures so you could see how everything works.

Then up to cardiology and the unveiling of Ryan’s oxygen saturation numbers. We plugged him in and the machine said he was sitting in the high 50s/low 60s. This is not Ryan’s baseline and we certainly don’t want him to be sitting this low on a normal basis. I couldn’t believe he was really satting that low so I put a new pulse ox probe on him and plugged it in. It immediately read mid-60s with a heart rate of 170. His little body was definitely showing signs of stress.

We waited for awhile but his sats and heart rate remained the same.

What does this mean for us?

Dr. D recommends Ryan be admitted and watched overnight. We bumped his oxygen up to 2 liters (from 1.5 liters) and his sats have come up a little bit. But we feel it is better safe than sorry.

So, hopefully his numbers will stay up (and hopefully climb a few points higher) so we can be discharged in the morning. Ryan is due for a heart cath next Monday, so Dr. D will have a clear picture then of what is really going on inside our little boy. Until then, we pray his numbers stay good and he is under as little stress as possible.

I am praying right now… I am so sorry for all the few steps forward and many back. I am thankful that he is getting some relief from whatever is causing the stress on his little body and pray the answer is revealed soon.
