What happens when we don’t obey?
Hebrews 3:13 But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
Activity: Salt dough hearts -Make a batch of salt dough. Roll it out flat and cut out hearts with cookie cutters. Let them dry into hardened hearts and paint them (optional). Talk about how sin makes our hearts hard.
Salt dough recipe: 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup water, 1 cup flour.
Directions:
1) Mix 1/2 cup salt and 1 cup flour.
2) Pour a little water in at a time and mix until dough forms. You may not need all the water. If you want to add food coloring – now is the time.
3) Roll dough out on a flat surface and cut out shapes.
4) To dry shapes, put them in the microwave for 1 minute. If they are still a little sticky, put them in the microwave for 20 second spurts until they are completely dry. (You should not smell burning. if you do burn them, you can incorporate that too by saying not only does sin harden our hearts, but sometimes we get burned!)
5) Let cool. If you didn’t add food coloring, you can have kids paint them if you wish.
Alternately: you can bake shapes in a 325 degree (F) oven for 2-3 hours or until dry. Explain that sometimes sin is hardening our heart so slowly over time that we don’t know it’s happening until our hearts are already hard.
