1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us of all unrighteousness.
The second way we prepare out hearts during Lent is through Penance. Penance is the act of doing something to “make up for” a sin you’ve committed. It’s important to understand forgiveness comes through confession before God and not through penance. Confession brings one back into a right standing before God whereas penance reminds one not to sin again.
Any penance done throughout this journey should point toward the gospel and what Jesus asks of us as followers of Christ.
Penance Activity: Volunteer as a family at a local soup kitchen. If your children are too young, have them help you make a big pot of chili or soup to take to a shut-in.
