The little things.

May 24, 2013/Confessions

When we arrived back in Pittsburgh last Saturday after a week away, there was a lot of catching up to do. The house was a wreck and I now had a large suitcase worth of dirty laundry. In the midst of the chaos, I took some time to notice the little things:

1. The color green: Morning came bright and early after a exhausting day of traveling on Saturday. For some reason my window shades were up so when I opened my eyes on Sunday, I was met with the most lush, green foliage. The green is so bright here in Pittsburgh and our back hill comes up to my bedroom eye-level so I just laid and looked at the weeds overtaking my backyard. But in some way, all the green, offset by a few bright purple rhododendron blooms was breath-taking. I’ve been admiring the green all week.

2. The smell of the ocean: yeah, I know. Weird to say upon our return, but when I opened our suitcases on Sunday the smell of the ocean came spilling out. I took in a deep breath and took one last whiff of the ocean breeze.

3. Our wildlife: Mexico has a lot of lizards and some very pretty birds. We have deer. Monday I took a few minutes to watch a deer grazing on some tree leaves in our backyard. Thursday, I watched a mother robin carry a wiggling warm into the bush by our deck to feed her babies. I’ve been wondering where her nest was. I saw her in the spring… so fat…. I’ve never seen a bird so fat… I knew she must be ready to lay eggs. I hope to catch a glimpse of her little broad soon. Thursday morning, I turned on the bathroom fan at 5:30 am to shut out the noise of the morning birds singing. I wasn’t quite ready to get up.

It’s now Friday and we have company coming in for the weekend. After a hot and sunny week, it looks like we’ll have a weekend of rain and chill. Boo. But the visit from our friends will make up for it. What are you doing for Memorial Day?

Been a long time follower of your beautiful family, but this is my first comment. Isn’t is wonderful when we stop to really look at and enjoy all of God’s creation?? I live in the mountains of Northern California and every day I get the privledge of seeing many wonderful creatures and plants that God made. Just like Ryan is a miracle, all of creation is, as well. I am glad you took a few minutes to enjoy it. I wish you a wonderful weekend with your family and visitors. You and your family are always in my prayers.
