Super Easy Valentine

February 14, 2012/Holidays

Okay, I know I put together a list of Valentine’s options, but in the end we decided to do something totally different. I saw these a few weeks ago on Pinterest (of course) and immediately thought they were perfect…. well with one little tweak.

On Pinterest they are painted silver with paint
Salt Dough - 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, cold water. Mix until has consistency of play dough. bake at 250 for 2 hours, then cool and paint….good recipe for thumbprint pendants.
I wanted them to be girlie so red or pink…. and I didn’t want to get out the paint.
So we used food coloring instead. I put it off for so long and almost talked myself out of it. It just seemed like so much work…
Then Sunday night the girls wanted to do something so I mixed up 1/2 cup salt, 1 cup flour, and 1/2 cup warm water…. plus a few dr0ps of food coloring. it probably took a total of 20 minutes from start to oven. (they have to cook on 250 for 2 hours). Of course, the kids loved cutting out the shapes
and piercing them with a pencils. Seriously. I don’t know why I waited so long.
I was worried the batch wouldn’t make enough, but one recipe made about 40 small (1-inch cutter) hearts. The girls, bus driver, babysitters, teachers and anyone else the girls add to the list will get the necklaces. The boys got bouncy balls.
This project was fun. It was easy. And they’re cute.
Happy Valentine’s Day.

I really LOVE this idea and think I’ll use it next year! We melted crayons into heart shapes and made little tags that read “color your heart out, Valentine.” I found the idea on another blog.

Just wanted to say Hi as I have been reading your blog from the UK where I read an online article about your amzing son. My son, Corwin, has hypoplastic right heart, Tricuspid atresia with TGA. He is now 5 and had his Fontan 6 months ago (my blog is very out of date, when I get a chance I must update it!). It was inspiring reading about your son’s amazing journey and so wanted to wish him,and you all,the very best for the future.
