Sugar Highs and Mental Lows

June 10, 2010/Recipes

I am a woman of action, er, well I used to be at least. I am finding these days that I have one 24-hour period of energy (like Tuesday) followed by at least 24 if not 48 or 72 hours of mental exhaustion. I’m still not used to it. It’s frustrating and odd all at the same time. I used to have energy every day…. and get lots done every day…. I’m not sure I like the new me.

In other news, here is what we snacked on Tuesday night.

Commenter Lisa sent me the recipe and not only are they extremely easy, but they are to die for. They are called Twix Bars and were posted by the Cupcakelady over at Hoosier Homemade. She has a great step-by-step tutorial, click here to see the full recipe. Oh, just click on it… you’ll thank me later.

The twix bars look delicious! Did you add an extra layer of cracker and sugar mixture?

Don’t worry about your one day of “doing it all” and then a few days of non-activity. Your body and mind are trying to regroup and catch up on all the sleep you missed out on for the past year or so and all the energy you used up because of anxiety/stress. Be easy on yourself…you have had a rough year!

Yummy yours looks so pretty…The only thing that saves me from these is I Do Not like my chocolate and peanut butter togther. I have been having fun making them for everyone else tho.

I hear you on the mental exhaustion, I feel the same way, but I get this way everytime we move with all that needs to be done. I just keep thinking “This too shall pass”

I made the spice cake balls yesterday and failed-the ball part was easy but the dipping in melted white chocolate didn’t go so well after the 16th ball. I need an advanced tutorial!
But I WILL try this new recipe as soon as I’m done with my diet (December maybe??!!)
    Miss you!

It’s been a long year but there is light at the end of the tunnel. While you’re on the journey, immerse yourself in the Word or you will run out of strength, depression will try to take a strong hold. Some trials are meant to be walked with a Friend. He will walk you through it and replenish your strength. I know you know all this. I am only reminding you. I am so proud of you and the way you have handled this last year. You are such a good mom to all your kids and a good wife and daughter too…mama

I think why I like your blog so much, is you remind me of myself. :o) Is that so egotistical????? :o) Anyway…I totally relate to the getting tons of things done, and then having a complete lack of energy for days after that. Just last week I finally stopped beating myself up about it, and told the Lord that I am just going to go with it. That maybe it’s just the way I was created….that I have massive energy spurts, and then massive times of laziness…but in the end they all balance each other out perfectly! At least I hope they do. Thanks again for making me smile.

I made these bars last night and just gave them a taste test…They are good, but being a Twix aficionado, real Twix do not have peanut butter in them so they don’t really taste like a real Twix. Next time I make them I will experiment with leaving the peanut butter out and just melting the chocolate to go on top. The peanut butter flavor seemed a little too overpowering and the topping stays too soft. Thanks for the recipe!

Anonymous – I agree they don’t taste like the orignial Twix candy bar… they taste like peanut butter twix candy bars so perhaps whoever should’ve named the recipe should’ve added that part in. 🙂 I thought about experimenting with leaving the peanut butter out too. Let me know how melting just chocolate goes.

I made these this weekend and they were a big hit! They will definitely make the list of go-to desserts for the summer.
I also thought about leaving out the peanut butter to make them taste more like the original twix… but everyone in my house liked the peanut butter! Thanks for the yummy recipe!
