Here are this week’s Seven Quick Takes. To join the fun, click here:

1

I love how honest kids are. The other day the girls had a playmate over for the afternoon. At one point Natalie came in to me and said, “She called me a stupid poopy.”

I looked at the little girl and said, “Did you call her a stupid poopy?”

“No.” She said and shook her very seriously. “I called her a poo-poo head.”
2
We are trying to teach Ryan how to clap. Recently I was trying to remember the words and tune to B-I-N-G-O so I said to Ainsley. “What’s the name of the farmer who has a dog named Bingo?” She thought for a minute and said, “I don’t know his name. They don’t tell us. Let’s just call him Henry, okay?”
(I remembered the song… There was a farmer had a dog and Bingo was his name-o…. so she’s right, they don’t tell us the name. Silly, Mommy, Trix are for kids.)
3
The other day I was doing pilates with Denise Austin (okay, well not literally with her, but to her video) and Natalie said, “Mommy, those girls are prettier than you. They look better when they do this…” Honestly, I don’t take it personally, but find it funny she thought it was important to tell me. And I had to laugh because when I am doing the Denise Austin video I feel like such a clutz and I’m the only one there. I’m embarrassed in front of myself! It’s ridiculous.
4
I am leaving shortly for my weekend away. Have I told you how excited I am for this? Just sayin’.
5
I have a giveaway post for Monday and I’m so excited I can hardly keep my mouth shut about it until then. But believe me, you are going to want to enter this one!
6
Natalie has been reading short vowel sounds since she was 3 1/2. I haven’t taught her anything new since Ryan was born… I haven’t had time. But I still make her read me her short vowel readers to keep her practicing. Usually I have to beg and bribe to get her to read to me for five minutes. Wednesday night she came home from school and told me her teacher tried to send a reader home with her, but she told the teacher she already had the book. Their homework was to read a story aloud. She ran and got her books and begged me to let her read them to me. First she read a short book about a cat named Max. Then she read me the 67 page short a sound reader from front to back. She did not complain one time. She sat still and read all the words and sounded out the few she didn’t know at first glance.
Seriously? I guess all she needed was a little encouragement from someone other than mom. As an avid reader, seeing these two like this made my heart swell with pride. (Ainsley is pretending to read a sheet of Similac coupons. She kept repeating, “Cat on bat, bat on cat….”)
7
I’m sick, did I mention this? My brain is fried and I can’t think of anything else. This seems to be a repetitive theme in my seven quick takes. I thought this was going to be an easy way to remember all the little things from the week. I’m finding you actually have to remember them!
You all know what I’m doing this weekend. What are you guys up to?

PS; I just read an article in people magazine of a boy born with his heart on the outside of his chest and he is I think 9 or 12 today. Was wondering if you got the chance to read it?

It’s been a while since I checked in. What a change in the kids’ pictures! I love the ordinary, everyday cute kid stories.

Crying that my wife is with you for the weekend! All three kids spent and hour or so vomiting at different times…poor guys.

(Just hear from Heidi who spent the night doing the same thing there. so sad!)

On kids honesty, we heard a story last night about one brother coming to the parents and whining “Davin hit me as hard as he could in the back!”, and 5-yr old Davin later saying ” I could have hit him much harder!”
