Pinspiration Completed: Collage Wall

July 18, 2012/Pinterest Party

This project has been a long time coming. My sister, Dottie, told me about Pinterest in the Spring of 2011. This is one of the first pins I ever pinned. In fact, I didn’t even have my Pin It widget installed so she pinned it for me. It remains on her boards to this day.

I love everything about this wall. The large pictures. The black and white mixed with color mixed with neutral walls. It’s gorgeous.

I don’t have a space this large in my house to cover, but I do have a large white space over my family room couch. I figured this’d be the perfect spot for a family collage.

I like her flat pictures, but I decided to try out the wrapped canvases everyone is talking about. Many folks are ordering them for exorbitant amounts making it cost prohibitive for me to do such a large grouping. That is until I saw (on Pinterest of course!) someone who mod-podged prints to canvases. BINGO!

I bought my canvases at JoAnn fabrics for 50% off and sent prints to a big box store with inexpensive enlargement services.

Here’s what you’ll need for the project.

I drizzled a generous amount of Mod Podge on the canvas

Then spread it all over making sure to bring it up to the sides… my biggest concern was the edges of the pictures would lift off.

I smoothed the picture out on the front then flipped the canvas and smoothed everything on the back and sides.

Then laid them aside to completely dry.  I let mine sit for 24 hours before having my husband meticulously hang them in a grid.

Here is a side view. In just the right lighting you can see the underlying glue on a few, but otherwise everything is perfect. Some folks paint the sides of their canvases black to blend with the pictures more, but I like the pop of white against the taupe walls. This is a fairly inexpensive way to get a large personal pop in any space.

Cost breakdown as requested:
Canvases at 50% off  – $6.50 (for a two pack)  x 4 = $26
Canvases at 50% off – $7.49 for one = $7.49
11×14 prints from box club – $3 x 9 = $27
Mod Podge – at 40% off  = $3.00
For all 9 prints I paid roughly $65 bucks.

Great work, Leighann!! Those are great shots that you chose! I took a pic for my dad one year for Father’s Day just like the hand one, with the three sisters and our children. I need to do another one this fall, as we will be adding a third child since it was taken! 🙂

This looks amazing! I just discovered your blog via your comment on Stylish Patina. Are you in the DC-metro area? I’m in Reston. So glad I found you. 🙂

Love It! Did you only do the Modge Podge on the back of the pictures, or over the front too – I have used this on other project and used underneath and over the pictures! I love this project and have found the perfect wall for it in my house too! However, I will be using pictures of my own family 🙂

    @Soldier Mama – bwahahahaha!
I used mod podge only on the back as a glue. I was afraid to use it on the front even though I’ve seen several people post about doing that.

OKAY – I am so excited – I went to JoAnn Fabrics today, and the Canvas was 50% off for a two pack – and then, I had a 20% off your entire order coupon – It was $23.00 for 6 of them. They came with a free larger one too – I have something else planned for those! I have ordered my prints from my regular place! I can’t wait to do my project – we have an empty rather large wall in my dining room that is going to be perfect!!
