Henry met the kids and me at a local farmer’s market so we could pick out our family tree. I know the romantic way to get a tree is to bundle up, drive an hour to a Christmas tree farm, walk through beautiful snow to find the perfect tree, and then warm up by a fire with warm apple cider while daddy cuts a tree and drags it to the car. Yea… that’s not us.
We’ve always bought our tree from a lot and made decorating it the big tradition. Here we are with our tree. It’s a bit smaller than last year’s.

Ainsley wanted to drive with Henry because it was the car with the tree. There was only one carseat so Natalie and Ry were stuck with me even though they both wanted to be with daddy too.

Henry and I set the tree up after the kids went to bed. The girls came home from school the next day and convinced me to let them decorate. I put the lights and garland on and then let them at it while I made dinner.

Of course I had to stop and get pics of Ryan trying to help.

He put this ornament on the tree
And then looked at me like this –

Ainsley worked very hard to get her ornaments just like she wanted them.

When I suggested she spread them out she said, “But they’re a family!”

Natalie was very proud of their handywork.

And so am I!

The picture of Ryan smiling looks like he’s wearing reindeer antlers because of the stockings hanging on the mantle behind him. too cute! My favorite is the family of christmas bulbs though. So sweet.

Leighann…this is precious! You are such a wonderful mommy! I never left my kids alone to decorate the tree. I am a silly perfectionist when it comes to decorating trees. And always have to have it just a certain way! (Shame on me!) But I LOVE it that you let them do it on their own! And the “they’re a family” part was so funny! I love that.

AND the pictures of Ryan decorating, and his satisfaction over helping…just made my heart smile!

Loved the pictures at the tree lot too…and the tree on top of daddy’s car. What a precious family! I just love you all.
