Just another day in the Burgh

March 28, 2014/Confessions of a SAHM

So yesterday was an interesting day….

I headed out in the afternoon to do a boat-load of errands to finish out my week. The kids don’t have school (something about teacher in-service day or something) so today is really the start of our weekend.

While out, I passed by this construction site. It made me giddy. Why? A Home Goods store and a Trader Joe’s is going in here. Whut? Whut? Two of my favorite stores going in less than 10 minutes from my house.

I’m finding that life with four can be a bit hectic. Shocker, right? Sweet P is dragged just about everywhere. I’m trying to stick to a feeding schedule as much as possible so I find myself nursing her in the car on errand days or sometimes in the preschool parking lot waiting for the pick up line. I typically just sit in Ryan’s carseat in the back and surf the net or read a book. Yesterday it was just the two of us and I quietly ate a Barre bar and read my book club book for tonight.

I’ll tell ya, ladies, you haven’t lived until someone has pooped on you… while you’re eating…. in the backseat of your car. Try it sometime, it rocks.

Luckily, this was a just a tiny leak and easily fixable. I typically carry an extra outfit in my purse and all the stars alined and one was still handy. I dumped the contents of a shopping bag and used it for the dirty goods. Whew! I felt like such a prepared little Girl Scout.

We then hit up our last store. After loading all the groceries into the trunk and swinging Piper’s carrier into the car I looked down and realized I needed to wash the car.   Salt, much?

Since Ryan had been at a playdate for quite some time I decided to go pick him up and run through the car wash really quickly in time to be home for the bus.

Instead, I got rear-ended by a 20 yr old girl who “looked down just for a second.” She was more upset than I was, probably because it was her first accident and her car had to be towed, while I was able to drive mine away from the scene. (It needs some body work as I was dead stopped for a bus letting off a kid and she was, well, accelerating.)

She hit me so hard two of my eggs cracked. Omelette anyone?

I’m just grateful Ryan wasn’t in the car (I guess we’ll have to figure out what would happen if his heart was bumped by a 5-point harness another day) and that Piper is 100% fine. I am a little stiff (I could see her coming in my rearview mirror and tensed up) but I’ll be just fine.

I got to finish the day carrying Sweet P around in a carrier at the elementary school art show. She was so alert looking at all the colorful paintings and greeting all those who stopped to meet her. Then she peacefully closed her eyes and fell asleep. Aside from the fact that my neck muscles were tight from carrying her around and my scarf had spit up all over it, I couldn’t have been more content.

Here’s hoping for a less eventful Friday.

So glad to see that you are both all right. I hope you are not sore today. I love you writing, especially your sharing of the events of Piper. I think you should name your cow Bessie. Flat Natalie visited with the new baby calf Julie when she was here.

Glad your both ok. Could have been a lot worse. I’m so glad Ryan was not with you. I’m always scared someone will rear end me especially when the kids are in the car. I’ve gotten to where I stop way back from the car in front of me and when someone is coming behind me I tap my brakes on and off and it makes the brake lights on the back blink. Since I’m so far back I have room to inch up as I do this.

I love reading about your family and am so glad noone was hurt in the accident. Maybe when in the car Ryan ahould wear the shield that he wears when doing something active?

Sorry to hear about your Thursday woes…hopefully your weekend was less eventful. On a side note, a Home Goods store just opened in Annapolis in the Trader Joe’s shopping center!

I have been reading since Ryan was a baby, but rarely comment. I love reading your blog! So glad you and Piper are okay and that Ryan wasn’t with you! Make sure you replace your car seats right away if you haven’t already! Insurance will cover the cost! (((hugs from Colorado)))

I don’t know how I ended up reading this again- I’m sleepcrastinating- something I imagine mothers of four never do. Anyway, the first time I almost cried I was so grateful that Ryan wasn’t in the car. This time I’m struck by the fact (no pun intended) that if you hadn’t been stopped in front of her- she may have hit a child getting of that bus. Just a thought. God is good.
