Have you ever heard of Groove Books? I hadn’t until a few months ago…. It’s an app you download to your phone which allows you to upload 40-100 photos per month (from your iPhone’s camera) to their website. They in turn send you a bound book of 4×6 photos that’s perforated and dated for a flat rate of $2.99. Total.

100 pictures for $2.99 printed and shipped.

Groove Book

For anyone who prints out photos (there are still a few of us!) that’s a steal.

Photos are super important to me. Always have been… always will be. I love having the memories in printed format. How may people do you know that say, “I lost my phone and all the pictures I’ve taken in the last 5 years.” OR “Our computer crashed and we lost all the baby pictures.”  Seriously. Print your photos people. Or at least back them up. And then print them.

But back to Groove Books.

The one downside I found immediately is that it takes 4-6 weeks to get your Groove Book from the time you order it. It’s not happiness to have to wait that long.

The second downside is the paper and print quality. I got my first one in the mail last week and was disappointed that the photo paper is extremely thin and the printing is very superficial, as if it was printed on a home computer (which I know it’s not). But you can tell the photo was printed. Does that make sense?? You know how when you get a photo from Target or whereever, the color is deeply imbedded on the photo paper? Well, this looks like the photo is sitting on top of the paper.

I’m not sure that clarified anything!

The upside is I have 100 prints off my phone for 2 cents per print.

They are even dated and timestamped at the top….

The photos are perforated so you can choose to leave them in the monthly books or tear them out. I’m choosing to put them in a photo album. Because of this, I wish the timestamp was on the back of the photo. So three things I’m asking for here…. 1) timestamp on the back of the photo, 2) better print quality, and 3) a faster turnaround time.

Other than that, I love the price. I love that Groove Book emails you to remind you to upload photos a few days before your automatic $2.99 subscription charge. And that your first book is free. If you want to try them out, you can get your first one free by using the code MARQUISS31 at checkout on www.groovebook.com

I think I may try this. Sounds neat and you can’t go wrong trying it for just $2.99! Their website says you should get your books in the mail in 10 – 12 days. Sounds like they may need to adjust that up a bit! Ha!

I’ll have to try this. I still print 75% of my photos and my kids wonder why until one needs something for a project at school then they are proud I do. I have over 50 photo books in storage and it just keeps growing. Hopefully they will update the way they print if it really is just on top of the paper vs the other places we can get photos printed from.
