The Strip District {Enrico’s sells Gluten Free!}

January 23, 2014/Family

We headed down to The Strip District on Monday morning to show the newbies the sights. We started at 21st Street Coffee, Henry’s favorite new coffee spot. They have a store front on the Strip and one by his office downtown. The barista recognized him (I can’t decide if this is a good thing or a bad thing!).

The kids waited patiently while the adults topped off their caffeine tanks. The kids didn’t need any caffeine, believe me!

I forgot a hat for Piper and it was COLD. I improvised with my glove. She was not impressed.

After our fix, we took the ladies to Pennsylvania Macaroni Company, a major destination on the Strip, even if you’re just window shopping. We ended up getting several different goat cheeses to try…. one which had tarragon and some little berries encrusted around the outside. I think I ate the entire half-pound myself. I C.O.U.L.D N.O.T. S.T.O.P. We also grabbed fresh fruit to eat with our cheese and figs.

Those four tall women are Henry’s mom, sister, aunt and cousin…

Piper was much happier without her glove/hat and with her sister holding her. Her first trip to Penn Mac but definitely not her last.

We made our way down the Strip, ducking in and out of several stores. The kids were little angels (most the time). We finally made it down to another major Strip destination, Wholey’s Fish Market. Robert Wholey, the owner, happened to be there and introduced himself to our family (in fact if you look to the right over Natalie’s shoulder he’s walking down the aisle in the black hat and black coat). He was meeting and greeting many of the customers that day. He asked Natalie if she wanted to hold a lobster. After finding out the claws would be clipped shut, she took him up on the offer.

We picked up some crab salad and lobster salad to complete our cheese/fruit meal.

One of my favorite stops of the day was The Enrico Biscotti Company established in 1993.

Enrico is “Henry” in Italian….

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Enrico’s has a gluten free section featuring biscotti and pizzelle. Natalie was ecstatic to get a treat along with the rest of us.

Enrico’s bakes all sorts of great sweets (I loved the shortbread cookies), but is known for it’s huge and delicious pieces of biscotti.

I recovered from the weekend on Tuesday morning with a delightful piece of gluten-free chocolate chip biscotti dipped in my lemon ginger tea. Yum! Now back to Paleo!
